it's a dog's life.

in the last week, i've heard about three different people getting new dogs...all of them puppies from breeders. while i love dogs, and love that people want to get dogs, it makes me sad that there are so many dogs up for adoption and that most people don't even consider it as an option. i adopted casey, and aside from the name, there isn't anything i would change about him. he's there for me on my happy days and there to try and lick tears on my sad ones. if any of you are thinking about getting a dog, please, please, please consider adopting. there are so many older (eg/ not puppies, but still super young and will be around for a long time to love) dogs that need homes. if you're looking, petfinder.com is an amazing resource. you can search all of the shelters in your area with very specific parameters - breed, age, sex...even name! most listings have a picture with the dog's story. warning, anything that says "urgent" or has a little heart icon with it is bound to make you a bit sad. some of these dogs have had a very tough life.

it's no secret that i've always wanted to add a weiner dog to my family. wally and biff (pictured above) totes melt my heart. who knows? there may be the pitter patter of four more small feet in my place soon.
