one of a kind?
not exactly.
yesterday i went to the one of a kind show in toronto. and while i think it's great that we put on exhibitions for artists to show off their designs and sell them, i can't help but feel a little ripped off. $400 for some words made out of photography? i wasn't joking when i said i could do that myself and put it in a $10 ikea frame. so, for you, after a couple of hours out with casey and my cam...voila! totes the same, non? actually it's better because this is more personal. so...happy early birthday! should i glue some pebbles into another frame? because i'm fairly certain i could do that too, for a lot less than the $250 they were charging. oh, and i promise it will be one of a kind too! :)
all kidding aside, there were some artists that did have some cool things i didn't think i could rip off quite as easily:
- monster factory i saw one of these monsters while i was in vancouver. little did i know there was actually a whole factory. adors! don't know if i'd be able to choose between todd, wayne or sebastian.
- track and field designs has some awes laptop bags. i'd go with the bicycle print, myself.
- anna zygonski had some great purses silkscreened and stitched on recycled mens dress pants.
- yasmine louis i would have bought a tee if only she had my size. j'ai fait l'impossible. you know how i feel about the unnecessary use of french. loves.
- lee meszaros has made some inappropriate badges modelled after those you'd receive at scouts or brownies. totes hilar.
- mehoi has always been a favourite of mine. she has a buncha stuff at the outer layer on queen west. awes accessories and impolite buttons, magnets and cards.
